WPHF Annual Report 2024

Financing Women on the Frontlines Advancing Peace

In Solidarity with Women Advancing Peace

In a year marked by intensification of conflicts and humanitarian crises, WPHF continued to serve as a vital lifeline for women’s civil society organizations operating in increasingly complex and fragile contexts. As a UN system-wide Trust Fund, WPHF worked in close collaboration with UN agencies and INGOs, leveraging their comparative advantages to deliver critical support to local women’s civil society organizations, women human rights defenders, and their families across the globe.

Throughout the year, WPHF supported 579 women-led and women’s rights organizations across 34 countries, mobilizing over $63.5 million – its highest annual resource mobilization so far – to respond to their urgent needs on the front lines. Since its establishment in 2016, the Fund has partnered with over 1,400 civil society organizations, marking a 147% increase since 2021. Nearly half of these organizations received UN funding for the first time through WPHF. Our dedicated financing windows also played a critical role: 344 women human rights defenders and their 1,132 dependents across 20 crisis-affected countries received direct protection and advocacy support through the Window for WHRDs, while the Rapid Response Window financed 23 new interventions to ensure women’s full participation in peace processes and the implementation of peace agreements in countries such as Afghanistan, Colombia, Liberia, Sudan, and Ukraine, and Yemen. Additionally, our Global Learning Hub (L-HUB) engaged over 1,500 civil society activists in peer-learning, knowledge-sharing, movement-building, and capacity-strengthening initiatives.

2025 marks a pivotal inflection point for women and girls, marking both Beijing+30 and the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325. As WPHF prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary next year, our focus remains steadfast: to invest in the transformative power of women and women-led organizations on the frontlines of conflict and crisis. In the face of ongoing emergencies and shrinking resources, WPHF remains committed to supporting the work and amplifying the voices of women civil society leaders advancing peace for all.

“Women like me – brave, resilient, and determined – are fueling the feminist movement in Haiti, filling the gaps left by government actors and reaching the most vulnerable and marginalized groups.”

“WPHF has really helped us a lot. Not only has the funding allowed us to engage more women in peacebuilding processes, but it’s also supported us to underscore the need for female leadership in these spaces, where we’re often left aside.”

“Peace cannot be sustained without women. We know what the needs of the most vulnerable are because we ourselves are discriminated, marginalized, and abused in many different contexts. That’s our strength, and that’s how we drive change in our local realities.”

Gender equality and the rights of women and girls continue to be key priorities for France. As a first concrete action of our new feminist foreign policy, we are proud to have joined the WPHF community of donors as a new board member in 2025.”

“The role of women’s organizations in shaping inclusive peace and climate action is key. Germany is proud to support the WPHF Initiative on Women and Climate Action, which should be a model for innovative financing for other funds.”

“Women at the grassroots level need support, but funding has to be flexible, tailored to the needs of women and girls, and address advocacy needs, not just humanitarian. That’s exactly the kind of support WPHF provides.”
